Taxpayers have until August 31, 2021 to join the Special ICMS Installment Payment Program (Tax Amnesty Program) in Rio de Janeiro

On June 7, 2021, was published the Supplementary Law No. 191/2021, which internalizes ICMS Agreement (Convênio) 72/2021 and amends Supplementary Law No. 189/2020 to extend until August 31, 2021, the possibility for Rio de Janeiro taxpayers to enroll into the Special Program for Payment in Installment of Tax Credits (PEP-ICMS).

The referred Amnesty Program allows taxpayers to pay state tax debts, regardless of whether they were already registered in the States list of debtors, with discounts up to 90% on fines and interest in case of cash payment. It is also possible to pay in up to 84 installments, with a reduction on the discounts.

To join the Special Program, it will be necessary to wait for the Normative Regulation.

The initiative aims to help companies that want to regularize their tax debts with the State of Rio de Janeiro, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In parallel, the program aims to assist the State in the process of recovering revenues for the State Treasury.
