Brazil’s National Mining Agency publishes the Tender Protocol for the 8th Round of Available Areas

28/05/2024
In brief

On May 17, 2024, the National Mining Agency (ANM) published the Tender Protocol for the 8th Round of Available Areas (the “Round”). The aim of the Round is to grant agents in the mining sector the right to apply, on a priority basis and within a fixed period of time, for a research authorization or mining concession for the areas previously selected and listed in the annex to the Tender Protocol.

In more detail

In the Round, 5,000 (five thousand) areas are being made available, classified by the ANM according to mineral substance, polygonal area, location, type of use and other categories. In terms of availability, 4,400 (four thousand four hundred) of these areas are for research, while 600 (six hundred) are for mining concessions.

Companies interested in participating shall express their interest by July 22, 2024, at 4pm Brasília time, exclusively through the SOPLE (Sistema de Oferta Pública e Leilão Eletrônico) platform.

If there is more than one expression of interest for a given area, an electronic auction will be held, with the bid with the highest financial value being declared the winner.

The areas for which there is no expression of interest or financial proposal will be deemed as free for new applications.
