Professional Experience
João Augusto Gameiro became partner of the firm in 2018, when he took over the leadership of the Corporate Criminal Law group.
As a defense attorney, he has represented several multinational companies and their shareholders and officers in police investigations, criminal lawsuits, administrative procedures, and congressional investigations on tax evasion, environmental crimes, crimes against consumers, antitrust crimes, anti-corruption, anti-counterfeiting, and money laundering cases. He has also worked as a legal assistant at the General Public Prosecution Office of the State of São Paulo.
In addition, Gameiro has advised foreign companies regarding Brazilian criminal and compliance laws, performed due diligence focused on criminal, anti-bribery, and anti-corruption liabilities and conducted internal investigations on corporate frauds, corruption, and anticompetitive practices.

Academic Background
Gameiro graduated from Universidade de São Paulo with a degree in Law and from Universidade de Coimbra / Instituto Brasileiro de Ciências Criminais – IBCCRim with a postgraduate course in Corporate Criminal Law, and also holds a master’s degree in Criminal Law from Universidade de São Paulo. He also attended the Intensive Course on Corporate Compliance & Ethics at the School of Professional Studies of the New York University – NYU (2015).
Activities outside the office
João Augusto Gameiro is a professor in the Compliance Extension Course at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. He gave several lectures in Brazil and abroad on Corporate Criminal Law and Compliance, in particular on money laundering, cross-border investigations, environmental crimes, anti-corruption enforcement, and trainings on dawn raids.
He is a member of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences – IBCCrim, of the Criminal Law Committee of the Center of Studies of Law Firms – CESA, of the Business Crime Committee of the International Bar Association – IBA, and of the Corporate Criminal Law Committee of Full Service Firms – COPE.

– O Tratamento Penal do Cartel de Empresas no Ordenamento Jurídico Brasileiro (“Criminal Enforcement of Cartel Conducts in the Brazilian Legal System”). Final paper presented at the Master’s Degree Program and Nominated by the Department of Criminal Law at the University of São Paulo as best Master’s thesis of 2007.

Representative matters and clients
– Represented several Brazilian and foreign companies in the most important operations conducted by the Brazilian Federal Police in recent years;
– Advised clients in the course of criminal investigations on internal fraud and recovering of assets;
– Conducted internal investigations for Brazilian infrastructure companies involved in Operation Car Wash and Operation Zelotes, with multijurisdictional impacts – including Brazil, the United States, and Spain – to collect evidence for the negotiation of leniency agreements and criminal collaboration agreements with law enforcement agencies;
– Conducted an internal investigation for one of the largest Brazilian e-commerce companies to collect evidence of fraud involving deviations of approximately USD 100 million.
